Apple's Quarterly Report
In response to my post earlier about AT&T’s quarterly results, and NYTime’s weak reporting on the subject, here’s Apple’s quarterly results as reported by AppleInsider.
The skinny:
270,000 iPhones sold in the first 30 hours
1,764,000 Macs shipped (33% increase over last year)
9,815,000 iPods shipped (21% increase over last year)

I love my DS Lite and would love to get a Wii. I just have too many other funs things going on right now. But, I’m happy to see Nintendo changing the game. Sony put a bad taste in my mouth last year with all the DRM, laptop battery, etc… debacles. And Micro$oft hasn’t tasted very good for quite some time.

Competition is good. Unless GM can reduce their higher overhead costs per employee, it’ll be tough to compete with Toyota.

AT&T, Apple, and the iPhone
The NYTimes had an article today on AT&T’s recent earning report, which showed that AT&T and Apple didn’t sell as many iPhones as analysts had hoped for or originally reported. Apple’s stock dropped a few percentage points today as a result.
The NYT article has a couple of sentences that have me thinking (uh oh, duck). For instance, I’m having a little trouble...

That’s nice, but where are the details? How else do I know who to cheer for? My initial gut reaction is to cheer for the real parents for getting their kids back, but knowing nothing about them as parents and nothing about the foster parents makes it tough for me to form much of an opinion other than the journalist isn’t very good. I mean come on, this went to the state supreme...

We bought a Canon PowerShot SD800IS Digital ELPH (why can’t everyone take a page out of Apple’s book for naming products???) and love it. But when we hit the water in Mexico, we leave our camera behind. Luckily several of our friends have the 770 SW and love it. Gruber rightfully chastising Yahoo! for being dumba55es. I doubt Google would ever do this since their employees use their products and care about things like security of their own accounts. So they implement things like SSL (which isn’t exactly new technology). Makes you wonder what Yahoo! employees use.

The first iPhone exploit.
Dr. Charles A. Miller of Independent Security Evaluators (founded by security expert Aviel D. Rubin of Johns Hopkins University) found that iPhone Safari is vulnerable to maliciously crafted websites. The details of the hack and a proposed fix were presented to Apple. The details will be made public by Dr. Miller at the upcoming BlackHat conference.
